A 17-year-old male has been convicted of the 2021 murder of Clifton Johnston

On March 27, 2021 the Port Alberni RCMP commenced a homicide investigation after 20-year-old Clifton Johnston was located deceased in the 3500 block of 4 Avenue in Port Alberni.

On July 7, 2023, the male, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was convicted of Second-Degree Murder, and received a seven-year sentence after pleading guilty.

We appreciate the public’s continued support as our investigation has continued through the last two years, and acknowledge the emotions that have been felt throughout the community as they have waited for today stated Constable Richard Johns. From the start, the Port Alberni RCMP has been dedicated to ensuring all available evidence was submitted in support of a successful prosecution. These efforts take time.

The 17-year-old Port Alberni male has been sentenced to four years in a correctional facility and three years in community with release conditions and will be closely supervised.
