Just before 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday May 31, 2023, Langley RCMP were called to a three vehicle collision on 16 Avenue east of 200 Street in Langley, BC.
The investigation thus far has determined a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier had been travelling east on 16th Avenue following a dump truck. As these two vehicles crossed 200th Street, they slowed to stop due to traffic congestion from an earlier collision ahead of them. A second dump truck, also east bound on 16th Avenue, crossed 200th Street but did not stop in time, colliding with the smaller Cavalier.
Unfortunately, the driver of the Cavalier, a 60 year old man from Chilliwack, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other drivers involved and several witnesses remained at scene cooperating with investigators.
The area of 16th Avenue between 200 Street and 208 Street will remained closed until just after midnight. The investigation is on going and causal factors have yet to be determined.
The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), the Langley RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT), the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement and Enforcement branch (CVSE) and BC Coroner Service are working in partnership to investigate the collision.
