Burnaby RCMP investigating fatal motor vehicle incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian

Burnaby RCMP is investigating a fatal motor vehicle incident that has resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

At 11:00 a.m., November 16, 2023, Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to reports that a pedestrian had been struck in the 4300-block of Hastings Street. The incident has resulted in the death of a female pedestrian.

Hastings Street has been shut down in both directions between Madison Avenue and Rosser Avenue.

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team has assumed conduct of the investigation. Investigators have identified the vehicle and are following up with information provided by witnesses to determine the circumstances which lead up to the incident.

We are still working to determine the circumstances of this incident, which has tragically claimed a life. Hastings Street will be closed in the area for quite some time, most likely into the evening hours, said Corporal Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. Please plan an alternate route and avoid the area.

Police have no further information to provide as the investigation is ongoing.
