The purpose of the Auxiliary Constable program is to strengthen community and Police partnerships by providing volunteers with the opportunity to perform authorized activities in support of strategies to address the causes of, or reduce the fear of, crime and disorder.
Langley Auxiliary Constables are volunteers under the command of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The primary purpose of this program is to participate in community policing activities throughout Langley relating to public safety and crime prevention. Auxiliary Constables participate in community policing programs with police officers. Auxiliary constables have peace officer status when on duty and under direct supervision of a member of the RCMP.
At the present time there are 47 auxiliary constables. A new troop of auxiliary just graduated in May 2016.
Auxiliary Constable Program Coordinator
Langley has a full time Auxiliary Constable Program Coordinator. Her name is Jean Galvin. Ms. Galvin's office is located at the main Langley RCMP Detachment. Ms. Galvin is responsible for all applications as well as overseeing the training for all new auxiliary constable training classes.
A provincial training program for all Auxiliary Constables is mandatory. It consists of approximately 90 hours of classroom training. There is approximately 70 hours of additional training outside a classroom environment on topics such as Officer Safety techniques and cavalry foot drill. Attendance to all training sessions is required.
The training course is usually delivered over a 4 -6 month period. The length of the training for each course may vary depending on the operational requirements. The classes of the last Auxiliary training session consisted of Saturday classroom sessions from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
All students must successfully pass a mid-term exam and a final exam, achieving a passing mark of 70%.
Due to changes to this program we presently are NOT accepting any applications.
