Dossier nº 2013-Block Watch
2013-08-14 13:56 PDT

This weekend, Langley RCMP’s Block Watch Program will partner with Township of Langley Fire Department to conduct a safety check event at Cheriton Park.

The impetus for the event was a request from a Block Watch captain for a presentation to theBlock Watch Sign residents of the 40 unit townhouse complex. Topics covered will include crime prevention, home security, and fire safety. While formulating a plan for the event, it was discovered that many of the residents in the age restricted complex required new smoke alarms and home security inspections.

This Saturday, August 17, the Langley RCMP Block Watch program will be providing the residents with a home inspection with will include: security of the entrance doors, windows and address visibility to ensure prompt emergency response should it be necessary.

Township of Langley Fire Department will ensure the smoke alarms are updated.

Volunteers from the Block Watch Program are trained and security cleared and can attend your home to conduct Home Security Inspections FREE OF CHARGE! These trained volunteers will provide you with information and suggest changes for increased safety. If you are interested in an event similar to the one detailed above or would like to book your Home Security Inspection, please contact the Block Watch Co-ordinator at 604-532-3213.

Block Watch Information:

Block Watch is a free community-based crime prevention program administered by the RCMP. The Block Watch Program has reduced reported property crime in organized areas. Citizens actively participate to reduce the opportunity for crime in their neighbourhood. Residents on a street, or in a Complex, form a communication chain, aided by a block map of names, telephone numbers, and addresses. They make a commitment to watch out for each other’s homes, and report suspicious activities and other crimes or problems occurring on their street to the police and to each other. The time commitment for volunteers is approximately 6 hours to become an active, organized Block, and about 6 hours per year thereafter.
