File # 2016-Counterattack
Wed Dec 07 08:50:00 PST 2016

The holiday Counterattack season has officially launched!!!!

Counterattack Checkstops will be manned at various locations throughout the Langleys continuing through the Christmas Season.

Residents of the Langleys have time and again shown their intolerance for impaired driving by reporting to police observations of motorists they believe to be impaired. If you are aware of an individual who has used drugs and is driving, please call Langley RCMP to report this dangerous driving practice.

While much progress has been made, impaired driving is the leading cause of criminal death in Canada and remains in the top three contributing factors for fatal crashes in B.C.

Drivers in the Langleys are reminded that police will be out any time of day in any type of weather.
We can all help to keep our roads safer by making smart choices for ourselves and encouraging others to make plans for a safe ride home before the festivities begin. Before heading out, choose a designated driver, keep money aside for transit or a taxi, stay overnight, call a sober friend or family member or call Operation Red Nose at 1-877-604-NOSE (6673). New drivers are reminded they can have NO ALCOHOL in their system when operating a motor vehicle. If these new drivers are found to have been drinking alcohol and operating a vehicle, they are subject to an immediate prohibition and possibly a later prohibition by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for violating the conditions of their license.

Drivers are reminded of these safety tips:

  • Remember, drinking and driving starts with your first drink. So, make a smart choice: choose a designated driver before going out, keep money aside for a bus or taxi, call a friend or stay overnight.
  • Don’t get in a car with a driver who has been drinking alcohol. Ask to get out of the car if necessary.
  • If you see an impaired driver, report it to your local police detachment— call 911.
  • Talk about the issue often with your family and friends.
